Good Heart offers process-based, child-centered art classes focusing on the exposure to and exploration of art materials and mediums without explicit direction. Providing children with minimal guidance allows them to think freely and express themselves honestly.

At Good Heart, we encourage (and truly enjoy) mess, play, and a lack of structure.

Process art

There is no “correct” finished product.

There is no “right” way.

Process art celebrates experimentation and exploration without any product-based goals. It gives children the freedom to think, explore, and make without expectations, allowing them to trust their own creativity and ideas.

Using their heads, hearts and hands, in open-ended activities, children gain:

  • problem-solving skills

  • fine motor strength and coordination

  • social and emotional skills through collaboration

  • self-confidence and independence as they exercise choice and creative decision making

Good Heart grew from a longing for a safe space to bring children together where they could play and create freely and openly.

I was an early childhood teacher for many years, where I used creativity and art to teach, motivate, and encourage self-expression. After becoming a mom, I continued exploring and making art with my own kids, but wished for a way to do so while building a community and meeting other families and their littles.

Really I just love exposing kids to art. I love to watch them experience their own creative journey, and I love to see what their little heads, hearts, and hands come up with.

It is my deepest hope that Good Heart brings joy, creativity, laughter, self-expression, and community to a neighborhood that is so near and dear to my own heart.

FAQs

  • Dress for mess! Please send your child to class in comfortable clothes the allow them a wide range of motion. They will be exploring with many different (mostly washable) mediums and materials and we encourage them to do so in whatever way feels most exciting and comfortable to them. Aprons and smocks are always provided and encouraged for children, but we suggest wearing clothing that you deem “okay to stain.”

  • Sometimes! But because process art focuses on the process of creation and collaboration, there isn’t always a finished, tangible product, but rather, a completed artistic experience that your child will remember and absolutely bring home with them instead.

  • We get it. Life happens! Please give us as much of a heads up as possible for class cancellations and rescheduling so we can invite someone from the waitlist. However, missed classes without warning are non-refundable.

  • We would love to work with you and your family to be a part of your next birthday, party, or bestie get-together. For details and inquiries, please e-mail goodheartartnyc@gmail.com.
